Since the Bali bombings I have been on a quest to become a wound / stomal Nurse Practitioner. I have had to complete a Masters in Clinical Nursing and then I have had to work with my employer to develop and implement a Nurse Practitioner role in my speciality. This has been my dream for many years and it was finally achieved on 12th May this year.
My role allows to me to prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests, interpret the findings of these tests and implement the appropriate action, these are skills that Registered Nurses don’t have the authority to do. There is only 10 Nurse Practitioners employed in the area of wound management in the country and we all support each other.
Being employed in this role is exciting and both daunting at the same time. People have high expectations of me and the role. Most of all it is dream come true. I work as part of a collaborative team in order for me to fulfil my role.
